Celadon Earns “Best Fleet to Drive For” Honor

Indianapolis-Based Company Chosen Out of 75 Fleets for Inaugural Award

Celadon Trucking Services Inc. was recently honored as the “Best Fleets to Drive For.” One of North America’s largest fleets, Celadon employs approximately 2,900 company drivers and 200 owner operators.

“We are delighted to receive this recognition,” said Steve Russell, Celadon Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. “We hire only experienced drivers with excellent safety records. They’re treated with respect, drive newer equipment, and enjoy unique health benefits, such as our comprehensive wellness program, which includes a full-service medical clinic at our headquarters. Further, about 13 percent of our drivers are women. We hire lumpers to load or unload freight so that our drivers don’t have to do anything but drive!"

In its first year, Best Fleets to Drive For identifies for-hire trucking companies across North America that offers the best workplace situations for their drivers. Carriers who are nominated are judged on the range and depth of the programs they offer, their overall effectiveness across key metrics of those programs, and the survey responses of drivers.

Over 75 fleets were nominated, and of them, the 20 best workplaces for drivers were named. Recently, those fleets were announced at the Truckload Carriers Association’s Annual Convention in Orlando, Florida.

TCA President Chris Burruss said, "The Best Fleets to Drive For is identifying the gold standard when it comes to a driver’s work environment.”

Any fleet operating 10 trucks or more was eligible for the program, after being nominated by at least one of their drivers. Fleet managers and a selection of their drivers were then surveyed in areas such as driver and community support, safety record, driver compensation, pension and benefits, professional development, etc. More information is available at www.BestFleetsToDriveFor.com.
